It’s been years, but she’s still learning

I’ve had endometriosis for a long time. Back then, people didn’t know what to do about period pain. When I told my doctor that it was like something was pulling on my abdomen and pelvic area, his suggestion was to “go away and have a baby.” Imagine being told to go have a baby. It took years for doctors and loved ones to take my pain seriously.

My advice for anyone is to be your own advocate. Educate yourself. No woman should suffer for years without an answer. I finally got a diagnosis for endometriosis in my mid-twenties. Over the past few decades, I’ve had 15 abdominal surgeries, and I’m STILL learning about my body.

If you’re having pain, and are not sure what is going on, go get it checked out! And, if your doctor isn’t listening to you, move on and find a doctor who will. This monster disease is not spoken about enough. It’s a serious issue that I’m passionate about changing.
