Don’t take no for an answer

I didn’t know what was going on when I started having awful periods as a teenager. I was literally sick with heavy clotting and bleeding. And, I would sometimes have to miss school because of the painful cramps.

I saw many doctors, but they never helped me. They just brushed it all off as a part of womanhood. So, I continued to suffer till I was about 28 years old—a long time! That’s when I came across an article called “Could It Be Endometriosis?” in a magazine.

Well, I read that article, and it listed the symptoms of endo. Every single one of them sounded like what I had. So, I clipped the article out and made an appointment with a gynecologist. I brought the article to his office and read it out loud to him. I told him that the symptoms it mentioned all matched what I was going through.

He scheduled me for a laparoscopy a week later. After the surgery, he confirmed that I did, indeed, have endometriosis. Ladies—speak up! If you have an inkling of any of the symptoms of endometriosis, get in and get checked. Don’t take no for an answer.
