I’ve suffered from painful periods ever since I got my very first one. And, when I gave birth to my twins, it only got worse. But, at first, I just put up with it. I even started to get used to the pain and inconvenience, so I didn’t bother going to the doctor about it. But, the worse it got, the harder it was to ignore.
My periods started lasting for a month or longer, and they were so heavy that they were embarrassing. I also started to experience pelvic pain at all times, regardless of my menstrual cycle. That’s when I really knew something wasn’t right. I finally decided to go to my doctor about it. I knew I couldn’t just put up with the pain anymore.
My doctor was wonderful, and she really listened to me. She performed a laparoscopic surgery, which confirmed that I had endometriosis. Since then, we’ve tried hormonal options for the pain, and I even had a hysterectomy. But, I’m still struggling with pain, so I’m looking for other options.
I really hope my story inspires someone, somehow. Don’t wait as long as I did to take your pain seriously. Because you’re important, and you shouldn’t have to just put up with pain.
