I went to see a gynecologist about my painful periods and he prescribed me one birth control pill after another, but the pain just wouldn’t stop. My mother even asked him if it could be endometriosis, but he told her that there was no way. He just prescribed me yet another birth control pill and recommended that I see a gastroenterologist and a urologist.
Over a year’s time, I saw both specialists. They ran multiple tests and procedures, but they couldn’t find anything wrong. At this point, I had become convinced I was crazy. And yet, the pain was getting even worse. So I went back to my gynecologist one last time. I told him my pain was not getting better and asked about endometriosis again, but he just tried to give me yet another birth control option.
Finally, I decided to get a second opinion. I got a new gynecologist who sat and really listened to me. In the 4 months since I’ve started seeing her, she did a laparoscopy that confirmed that I have endometriosis! It’s a relief that someone actually listened to me and that I’m not crazy, after all!
