A few months after finishing graduate school, I felt sharp pain in my pelvis. The pain became so intense that sometimes I would have to go to the emergency room. I would see different doctors every time I went and they would run different tests. But no one could ever tell me what was wrong.
Sometimes, I felt like the doctors didn’t take the time to talk to me about my pain or my symptoms or even what was happening. They didn’t explain why they were giving me different tests, either. It was very frustrating for me. Luckily, my mother saw how much pain I was in. She recommended a gynecologist she saw for a previous procedure.
During my first appointment, he took the time to listen to all my symptoms. It was the first time I felt heard. He talked to me about my pelvic pain and even told me why different doctors at the hospital were giving me different tests. After performing a pelvic exam, and ultrasound, and having additional procedures he confirmed that I had endometriosis. He explained treatment options and was dedicated to helping me feel better.
My journey with endometriosis has been challenging at times, but finding the right doctor was the turning point. I’m THRILLED I found a gynecologist who listened and helped me feel heard. I hope that other women can find the answers they need.
